CURIOSITY COMPASSION COLLABORATION

A Powerful Supplement for Talk Therapy

If you have already started working with a therapist, I am so proud of you! I’m aware that building a therapeutic relationship is a delicate process that can be years in the making. Once you get started, painful memories and trauma can easily intrude or interfere with traditional therapy. In these cases, Adjunct EMDR may resolve the impasse  Adjunct EMDR refers to focused EMDR therapy in support of your primary psychotherapy treatment. It does not replace or interrupt ongoing therapy but serves as a potent supplement, complimentary to your primary therapy relationship.

Adjunct EMDR can be a brief (focused narrowly on referral issue) and collaborative effort (ongoing, active & reciprocal communication between EMDR therapist, referring therapist, and client). After your Pre-Intensive Interview, treatment and processing recommendations are shared with you and your primary therapist. This will allow us to discuss reasonable expectations, assess the referring problem, and determine if you would be a good candidate for Adjunct EMDR (Brief or Collaborative).

If you are a good candidate for Adjunct EMDR, we can prioritize targets and proceed. We will re-evaluate at the end of your program and discuss the option of re-contracting for more treatment if it is not complete. The same measurements used at the beginning of treatment (PHQ-9, GAD-7, & PCL-5) are used to re-assess treatment outcome.

When EMDR is used as an adjunct therapy, we can narrow down and target specific traumatic memories or isolated phobias, ultimately accelerating your progress, helping you and your primary therapist to clarify stuck points, and enriching your ongoing work with them.

This model is usually structured as 3 to 12 sessions, usually interwoven into treatment with your primary therapist. A Release of Information is required to secure permission to contact and collaborate with your primary therapist. If you are not a good candidate for Adjunct EMDR, other options will be provided to you and your referring therapist.
